Massachusetts Institute of Technology, popularly known as MIT, is a private land-grant research university. Located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in the suburbs of Boston, MIT has a campus that runs for 1.6 km alongside the Charles River.
MIT was founded in 1861, during the industrialization in the US. Their motto Mens et Manus (Mind and Hand) describes the idea that both the workings of the mind and physical work are of great importance.
MIT is based on European polytechnic university model. MIT also highlighted the necessity of laboratory work in the fields of applied science and engineering. MIT alumni made incredible breakthroughs and left mark in modern science with their innovations that transformed the world around us.

MIT sponsors 31 varsity sports. University’s intercollegiate sports teams, called the MIT Engineers, compete mostly in NCAA Division III. Their colors are Cardinal Red and Steel Gray, and their mascot is Tim the Beaver (MIT spelled backwards).

Cambridge is a city in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. Cambridge is also a part of the Boston metropolitan area. The city is situated in the north of Boston, and it got its name as an honor to the University of Cambridge, England.
Cambridge lies on the Charles River which is one of the city’s main attractions. A nature reservation runs along both sides of the river and it offers a paradise for bicycle and jogging enthusiasts. There are also numerous tennis courts and swimming pools. Let’s also not forget the Hatch Memorial Shell, a must-visit venue for live concerts.
Harvard Museum of Natural History is a definite stop for nature lovers and history fans. See the Blaschka glass flowers, impressive Kronosaurus skeleton, reproductions of diverse wildlife land and sea creatures, beautiful minerals.
Another must-see, especially for MIT students, is the MIT Museum. Celebrating art, science, and technology that helped shape the world, this museum hosts temporary and permanent exhibitions.
