5 Tips on Picking the Right University

Leaving high school and preparing for “real life” is in itself an adventure. Deciding on the next step in your academic journey may seem scary but at the same exciting. What university to choose? What major to pick?

A lot of decisions are ahead of you, but we hope a few of our tips will help you in that process.

1. Courses

Depending on whether you are choosing a business, humanities, arts, or STEM major, you will naturally have different courses. However, courses can differ from university to university even in the same major. Do your research, and decide which courses seem the most appealing to you.

Also, don’t forget to check your future professors at websites like Rate My Professors.

2. Location

Another thing that you should take into consideration is the university’s location. Where do you want to study? What is the weather like in your chosen city? Is there a vibrant social life, or is it a quiet town?

Even though these aspects may not seem all that important to you, you will understand their importance once you actually start living and studying there. Do your research and pick the right city for yourself!

3. Sports

If you are an athlete, naturally you do want to choose the university that has your chosen sport as an option. Contact the universities and ask for their latest sports teams’ status; you don’t want to apply to a university and find out late that your sports team is dropped.

4. Reputation

Having a notable university on your CV is a big plus, but do keep in mind that your university experience can be just as good at some less famous university. Decide whether the university’s reputation means much to you or not.

Of course, if you are interested in technology, you would wish to apply to MIT, as it is the most notable university in general, but precisely in that field.

5. Accommodation

Another thing you need to think about is the accommodation. Whether you will be at campus or city university, find all information about students’ options when it comes to rooms or flats. Search for roommates, bring some home decor to brighten the place up, and get ready for an adventure of a lifetime!
